Manufactured Homes in Milford, Indiana: Split-Bedroom or Same-Side Layout?

Manufactured Homes in Milford, Indiana: Split-Bedroom or Same-Side Layout?

Milford sits in northern Kosciusko County, between the lakes and the farm ground. Buyers here range from young families to couples whose children have left home, and the floor plan question that splits them most is not square footage. It is where the bedrooms are.

Two basic arrangements

  • Split-bedroom. The primary bedroom sits at one end of the manufactured home and the other bedrooms at the far end, with the kitchen and living room between them.
  • Same-side. All the bedrooms share one end of the home, usually along a hallway, and the living space has the other end to itself.

Who each one suits

A split-bedroom layout gives the most privacy. It suits households with teenagers, a home office in a spare bedroom, guests who stay for a week, or one person who works early shifts. The kitchen and living room act as a buffer for sound.

A same-side layout keeps everyone close. Parents of babies and young children often prefer it, because a cry down the hall is easier to hear than one from across the house. It can also leave the living end of the home more open, without a hallway cutting through it.

Noise is about more than distance

Look at what sits on the other side of each bedroom wall. A bedroom that backs onto the laundry, a bathroom or the living room TV wall will hear it. On a drawing, check:

  • which rooms share a wall with each bedroom
  • where the washer and dryer are, and whether you plan to run them at night
  • whether the primary bedroom door opens onto the living room or onto a short hall

Single-section homes

Many single-section plans are split-bedroom by design, with a bedroom at each end. If you want a same-side single-section home, look for plans with a short hallway of bedrooms. Our Akron post covers reading a floor plan drawing in more detail.

See both before you choose

Walking one of each at the showroom answers the question faster than any drawing. Browse the floor plans and note one of each kind to compare.

Common questions

Is one layout cheaper than the other?

Not by itself. Price depends on the size of the home, the series and the options you choose. Ask for a line-item quote on each plan you are comparing.

Can I move a bedroom to the other end?

Layouts are set by the plan. Some plans come in a reversed version, so ask when you order.
