Manufactured Homes in Stroh, Indiana: Driveway Permits, Culverts and Your New Address

Stroh is a small lake community in southeast LaGrange County, close to the Noble County line. Many of the buyers we hear from around here are building on ground that has never had a house on it. That raises two small questions that are easy to miss until they hold up a project: how do we get onto the property from the road, and what is our address?
The driveway starts at the road
A new driveway onto a county road usually needs approval from the county highway department, and often a culvert under the entrance so the roadside ditch keeps draining. Before you design the driveway — and before anyone digs — ask the county:
- Is a permit required for a new driveway entrance on this road?
- Is a culvert required, and what size and material?
- Are there rules on where the entrance can go, such as sight distance near a curve or hill?
Get the answers in writing. The driveway also has to carry the home’s delivery, so build it for that, not just for the family car.
Get an address before you need one
Bare land often has a parcel number but no street address. A new home needs one — for utility service, mail, deliveries, and most importantly so emergency crews can find you. Ask the county which office assigns addresses and what it needs from you, and do it early, because utility companies may ask for the address before they will schedule service.
Who does what
The driveway, culvert and site work are yours to contract; we sell the home and arrange delivery, and we do not perform site work or setup. The site work guide lays out the order things happen in, and the delivery and set-up guide explains what the transport needs to reach your site.
Common questions
Do I always need a culvert?
Not always. It depends on the road and the ditch. The county highway department answers for your entrance.
When should I request an address?
As soon as you know where the driveway and home will go. Utilities may need it to schedule service.
