Manufactured Homes in Nappanee, Indiana: Choosing a Kitchen That Fits How You Cook

Nappanee sits in southwestern Elkhart County, surrounded by farm country where meals are still made at home and often for a crowd. When buyers from here walk through our homes, they head for the kitchen first. That is the right instinct: the kitchen layout is fixed by the floor plan, so it is worth choosing carefully before you order a manufactured home.
Start with how you actually cook
- Who cooks, and how many at once? Two cooks need room to pass each other and two places to work.
- How many do you feed? A large family needs counter space for serving and a table that seats everyone.
- Do you bake, can or preserve? Then storage and a long run of counter matter more than an island.
Layouts you will see
- Island kitchens. Common in multi-section homes. An island adds work space and a place to sit, and keeps the cook facing the living area.
- Galley and L-shaped kitchens. Common in single-section homes. Efficient for one cook; check the walkway width if two will work together.
- Pantries. A walk-in or cabinet pantry changes how much the kitchen can hold. Count shelves, not just doors.
- Dining space. Some plans have a separate dining area; others put the table at the end of the kitchen. Measure your table against the plan.
Options to decide at order
Appliances, cabinet finishes, countertops and some layout options are chosen when the home is ordered at the plant, and are much harder to change later. Our buyer’s guide walks through what to settle before you sign.
See it in person
Pictures flatten a kitchen. Bring a tape measure and your largest pan to the showroom, open the cabinets, and stand where you would cook. Then compare the floor plans side by side.
Common questions
Can I get an island in a single-section home?
Some single-section plans include one; many do not. Compare plans by width and kitchen layout.
Are the kitchen photos showing standard features?
Not always. Photos and renderings can show optional features, so check the plan’s standard list.
